Your Aries New Moon Permission Slip

The Aries New Moon: The Courage to Begin (Even When You’re Not Ready)

One of the things I have come to witness over and over again in my work as an astrologer, sitting with so many people at different stages of their lives, is just how often we hold ourselves back from what we truly want… how often we quiet that instinct, delay that decision, or place our own desires to the side in order to meet the needs, expectations, or comfort of others. I’ve done it myself many many times and when I witness it now, so often in others, it reflects to me just how insidious it is, how subtly it is depleting our light and our life force.

People, and I will say it, especially women are all too ready to say “not yet,” the “maybe later,” the “it’s not the right time,” the internal negotiation that slowly and almost invisibly moves us further and further away from something that, at one point, felt alive and true inside us, and over time, what can happen is that our instinct our natural impulse to move towards what we want becomes harder to hear.

So when I look at this very spectacular Aries New Moon energy with SOO many planets in Aries,  what I see is not just another moment of “new beginnings,” but something, much more confronting, and ultimately much more liberating than that.

This is your Aries Permission Slip to well, be fundamentally……selfish for a change.

This abundance of Aries energy is a permission slip to reconnect with that instinct, to remember what it feels like to want something without immediately editing it, softening it, or reshaping it to fit what feels acceptable or manageable, and to begin to act on your own behalf in a way that may feel unfamiliar, and at times even uncomfortable. And yes… to be a little bit selfish.

Not in a way that disregards others, but in a way that allows you, even briefly, to centre yourself, to listen inwardly, and to recognise that your desires, your direction, and your sense of movement actually matter.

So the question is … what do you want and are you willing to begin.

This New Moon is creating a kind of internal pressure that is hard to ignore, where something inside us begins to stir, to push, to ask for movement, even if we’re not entirely sure what that movement is yet.

This New Moon in Aries on April 17 at 9:51pm here in Melbourne sits within a significant concentration of Aries energy, with the Sun and Moon joined by Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune and Chiron, and when this many planets gather in one sign, particularly a sign like Aries, there is a clear message that something is ready—if not overdue—to begin.

So what you may notice is restlessness, agitation, a desire to act, to decide, to shift something, even if clarity hasn’t fully landed yet, and this is where many people pull back, because we are often more comfortable moving when things feel certain, planned, and contained.

But Aries doesn’t work that way, Aries moves first and understanding this changes how we can work with this energy.

Working With the Fire Instead of Resisting It

Rather than trying to slow this energy down or make it more comfortable, the real work here is learning how to channel it.

So one of the simplest and most powerful ways to work with this New Moon is through physical movement.  This is fire in the body that needs to move, so walk, exercise dance- do something that allows the internal heat to have an outlet. Even 10–15 minutes of intentional movement can shift how this energy sits within you.

A Simple Aries New Moon Ritual

This doesn’t need to be complicated, in fact, Aries prefers it simple and direct.

Set aside some quiet time around the New Moon and ask yourself:

What do I want right now?

Write it down

And then, instead of creating a long list of intentions, choose one thing -One action or step or commitment to a new beginning and commit to doing something towards it within the next 24–48 hours.

The Discomfort of Being Self-Directed

This is not always easy, because this energy turns you towards yourself, and for many, that brings up discomfort.

The question of what do I want? can feel surprisingly complex when you are used to considering everyone else first.

So part of working with this New Moon is simply allowing that discomfort to exist without immediately moving away from it.

Sitting with the question and letting the answer emerge slowly, rather than forcing it.

When the Shadow Shows Up

With Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune and Chiron all in Aries, there is also a complexity here that needs to be acknowledged.

Mars can bring urgency and frustration. Mercury can bring quick reactions or impulsive communication. Its connection to Neptune can create confusion or misinterpretation.Saturn adds pressure and consequence. And Chiron brings vulnerability around identity and worth.

So if you find yourself feeling reactive, overwhelmed, or uncertain at times, pause before reacting and channel the energy into something constructive rather than letting it spill out.

Healing Through Action

Chiron in Aries reminds us that taking action is not always straightforward, because it can touch old wounds around confidence, identity, and the right to take up space.

So if fear or doubt arises as you begin to move towards something, this doesn’t mean you should stop, it might mean you are touching something important, so rather than waiting for confidence, allow the action itself to become the healing.

A Final Practice

If you’re unsure where to direct this energy, take a moment to look at your own chart, or simply reflect on where Aries sits in your life.

Where are you being asked to begin?Where are you being asked to act differently?Where are you being asked to choose yourself?

Even journaling on these questions can bring clarity.

And if you feel called, this can be a powerful time to explore your chart more deeply, because understanding your personal astrology can offer insight into what is being activated for you right now, and where this initiation is asking to take shape.
