Pisces may be the most misunderstood sign in the zodiac; even Pisces themselves may not fully understand this etheric, nebulous, creative and compassionate energy.

In the zodiac, Pisces is the last of the signs, the end of a cycle. Material and earth matters often seem to be of less importance than finding a higher purpose, accessing the world beyond the physical.

ree

The Pisces glyph represents two fishes swimming in opposite directions, one downstream and the other moving upstream. This duality is a good representative of this water sign's mutability. These opposite natures can choose the high road or the low road, move with the current or swim against it, and choose to live in the "real" or the ethereal world. The challenge for Pisces is to merge the two and integrate both parts of this contrary nature, which is not necessarily easy.

Pisces energy I feel is the hardest to pin down. Those with Pisces strong in their chart sometimes take on far greater attributes of other energies of their astrological makeup ( perhaps more their moon or rising sign, for example). This is because Pisces' innate mutable, flowing energy can merge and dissolve with other energies, making them the multi-faceted chameleon of the zodiac.

Pisces is all things "otherwordly" by this, I mean associated and attributed to qualities that are not necessarily energies we can easily define. Pisces is mystical, sensitive, intuitive, creative, artistic, musical, compassionate, spiritual, empathetic and often operates from a deep unconscious emotional level. They are happiest when they don't have to face the harsh realities of everyday life and can find solitude and a peaceful environment to recharge their batteries literally.

ree

On the flip side, Pisces can also be manipulative, controlling, prone to martyrdom, deceptive to themselves and others. They can become overly concerned with others thoughts, feelings and emotions, hypersensitive and prone to addictive and escapist tendencies. They can be overwhelmed by their own emotions, causing them problems in expressing their feelings constructively and healthily.

One of Pisces' greatest challenges is understanding that they are the most free-flowing and psychic of energies. They unconsciously take on other peoples energies physically and psychically. This causes mood changes depending on the energies they pick up and can certainly lead them to feel confused about what they want, who they are, and what they want to focus on. As a result, they can scatter their energies.

Being aware of this attribute is absolutely necessary to attempt to determine what is theirs and what is not. If they're unable to do this they have trouble defining themselves, and the 'real world can become overwhelming. They either retreat to their private world or take themselves out of reality via drug and alcohol abuse. Pisces are associated with addictive tendencies, including people, gambling, sex, and work.

ree

The challenge is to know their limits, set personal boundaries and tap into the other realms ruled by Pisces. This includes music, art, spirituality, fashion, beauty, fantasy movies, books, photography. Creative expression is essential for Pisces, so they must find time to pursue their creative desires.

Because they are so emotionally in tune, they have a huge amount of empathy. They are often found in the healing professions, whether toward people, animals or the environment; they must feel as though they are helping and doing something good and of purpose in the world.

Their ability to "merge" also makes them excellent actors both on stage and in real life. They can play any part as they can "read" people and invisible energies. When they are doing this consciously, this is a great attribute. When they are not and take on roles to please others, it can become extremely tiring and damaging to their mental health.

At their best, they are incredibly compassionate, sensitive, loving, passive, peaceful, caring, creative and inspirational. At their worst, they lack boundaries, are vague daydreamers, lazy, addictive, manipulative and confused.

Like the two fish swimming in opposite directions, these polarities can be very tricky to manage, so they must learn to define and stick to their boundaries and healthily nurture themselves. They need to retreat when necessary and allow their imagination to run off and bring forth creative inspiration.

Attempts to get others to understand how the Pisces energy works can be challenging as others often don't "get it." This can lead to feelings of guilt and shame when they cannot legitimately meet others' expectations. It isn't very easy when they are overwhelmed and need space, time and peace before they can re-enter the world.

There are many people with strong Piscean energy who can function just fine in the world. They can use their creative gifts constructively. They are empathetic and kind, loving and understanding and often able to see a situation from many perspectives. An emotionally intelligent Pisces is a beautiful thing and very much needed in our world. These people are the creative inspirationists, the healers and are often found in jobs associated with the sign.

ree

Embracing some of the qualities of their oppositive sign Virgo is essential for a healthy life. Daily routines, managing their health and grounding themselves in nature are vital for Pisces to function on the earth healthily and constructively.

Having strong Pisces energy can manifest in one's astrology via the Sun sign, Moon Sign or Rising sign, or a strongly placed ruling planet, Neptune. One or more of these attributes will need to be integrated into the rest of the chart.

With the sun entering the water sign of Pisces, we start to slowly get some relief from the abundant and frenetic energy of multiple planets in Aquarius. If you feel like you have been buzzing, like your head won't stop, we have some relief in sight.

Pisces season brings with it the access to a more feeling nature, moving away from our heads and a little more into our hearts. Pisces is one of the most profoundly emotional and sensitive of signs that can merge with the energies around them. I have written a separate piece on Pisces sign if you want to know more about the signs personalised energies.

We still have an abundance of planets in Aquarius, but with the sun in Pisces, we may be able to tap into our intuitive nature more easily, access our dreams more readily and put creative energy into the projects and ideas we have been thinking about in Aquarius season.

Pisces heightens our emotions and senses, which offers us an opportunity to tune into our imaginative world. We can do this via reading, watching movies, listening to music, creating art,

mindfulness, and meditation.

Pisces provides us with a need for escapism, moving us from over thinking into the world of feeling. I feel the whole world could use a little escapism right now, a bit more tuning into the self rather than the collective. Take time to tap into this part of yourself now and access the abundance of imagery and messages that you can access. Being a mutable water sign, it is also literally a good time to get into the water and feel your body's weightlessness.

Pisces' shadow side is overly escaping via the use of substances or fantasies that take us away from the 'real' world, so this is a tendency to be especially wary of.

Mercury goes Direct

Mercury is on the move once again and goes direct on February 21st. I know many of us have felt the frustrations that come with Mercury retrograde. Communications will improve, less stuff will break ( we had a few mishaps at home, including the coffee machine breaking!), and you should feel as though things are moving rather than the stagnant energy that Mercury retrograde often brings with it.

The planet of love and beauty, our feminine principles Venus joins the Sun in Pisces on the 25th, which lessens the focus on Aquarius. Our desire to help others is heightened as is romance, our feeling nature, glamour, and artistic creativity. If there is a creative project you want to start, this will be a perfect time. I have noticed that when Venus is in Pisces, I tend to buy new beauty products, new clothes etc., to make me feel good about myself. I have a Pisces rising, so this makes total sense. Anyway, I digress…

The moon is full in the sign of Virgo on February 27th. Pisces and Virgo are a fascinating pair when they meet up. I will write more about the full moon in Virgo closer to the date. In essence, we experience the polarities of such energies as; the need for order vs an element of chaos vs order, criticism vs compassion, perfection vs wholeness. Virgo energy focuses on being of service on a practical nature, and Pisces focuses on selfless serving, devotion and sacrifice. When they combine in the sky, we can experience various elements in opposition to each other. Still, the real lesson is to integrate them to work as a united whole bringing practical humility and kindness…..

Mars moves out of sensuous earthly focused Taurus into Gemini's quick thinking sign on March 5th, where it stays until April 24th. This energy drives forward communication, fast messaging, technologies, moving around our community, writing and publishing. If you need an extra push to get a message across, communicate or publish a new idea, this is the right time to do so. However, we need to be aware that we don't over extend ourselves mentally and that we keep a sense check of what we are saying and how, as this energy can certainly use some proofreading before we press the send button.

ree

Venus and the Sun meet up with Pisces' ruling planet, Neptune on March 7th and then are joined by the new moon in Pisces on the 13th. We will have now well moved away from the abundance of Aquarius energy. The focus will be on the feeling nature, other worldliness, intuition, and creativity. In particular, this period surrounding the new moon will be a very strong period to begin any creative artistic, spiritual project or to simply escape from reality. This period will be felt particularly strongly by the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Make the most of Pisces season by allowing your emotional nature to flow freely. Express it via creative and artistic pursuits, listen to beautiful music, slow down and allow yourself to simply feel.

NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS

Here we are with the new moon joining all the other planets in Aquarius - 6 of them to be exact and they line up all next to each other. The last time this happened was back in 1972.

The beginning of a new moon cycle is where we look within to discover what the new cycle is all about and set our intentions of what we would like to achieve or manifest over the upcoming 28 days.

This particular new moon is quite potent with a great emphasis on Aquarian energy, which I have mentioned previously is all about the collective energy, change and reform, freedom and liberation and group experiences of all kinds, business, political and social.

This new moon is an excellent time for us to connect and reconnect with your 'tribe', your chosen family, the people who share your unique and special interests or a cause that you are aligned to.

If you have a particular project that requires assistance, this is the perfect timing to ask for and seek help from others who share your vision.

This energy is also about harnessing connections with those people, politics, systems and causes that are moving toward a new and larger vision of the future.

Aquarius energy is also about looking forward to our hopes, wishes and future visions and making improvements, tweaks and changes to bring us closer to our vision, ideals and ideas about the future. Given Aquarius is also about science and technology, using new methods or a new piece of technology to help you achieve your goals, is enhanced here. Do remember that Mercury is retrograde until the 20th so perhaps set your intentions but don't press 'install' until after the 20th….

This new moon is very much about reflecting on what we are 'called' to do especially toward a larger collective purpose. Is there anything that is 'calling' you at the moment or that you have perhaps been ignoring? Now is the time to look forward and discover what you may feel your calling truly is and how you can plan to achieve it.

This is also a period in which you can examine how you work personally within group dynamics. With so many planets in Aquarius, the energy is dense, offering us an opportunity to assess if we are too focused on what the group or the collective wants at the expense of our individuality and uniqueness. Do you speak your truth in the collective or group sense or just go along with the flow? How are these dynamics working for or against you at this time?

On a more extensive and collective sense, this abundance of planets asks all of us to examine what and where we wish to see change and how we might go about achieving it. Aquarius is the sign of revolution, of rebellion. One of Aquariuses greatest assets in my mind is the energy push it offers to open up our minds and accept change, diversity, integration of the disenfranchised and how our systems support or hinder this essence for the future.

There is tension supplied by Mars in Taurus making a square aspect to all this Aquarius about our past vs our present, restriction vs freedom, establishment vs start-ups. All these 'themes' will be heavy and evident in our personal and collective space over the next 28 days.

Venus and Jupiter are also lined up in Aquarius during this period. It offers us the potential to find agreement, common ground, and focus on moving forward, both collectively and personally.

Additionally, with Saturn in Aquarius, we can ask ourselves what the structures, rules and disciplines we require to where we want to head?

Use this full moon energy to meditate on these things and set your intentions for the next 28 days. The most potent time to set your new moon intention is after 6.23 am on the 12th Feb until about 4.00 pm on the same day. Australian Eastern Standard time.
