Chiron leaving Aries- The Wounds, the healing and the wisdom you now carry

If you are an Aries Sun, Moon or Rising, have personal planets in Aries, or were born with Chiron in Aries itself ( 1968- 76)  I want to talk to you about a transit that has quietly but profoundly shaped the last seven years of your life.

On the 20th of June here in Australia, Chiron takes its first steps into Taurus. Now, before any astrologers jump into the comments, yes, I know this isn't the end of the story. Chiron will retrograde back into Aries later this year before finally settling into Taurus in April 2027. This is more of a preview than a permanent move, a glimpse of the next chapter before we return to Aries for one final review.

Yet as this shift approaches, I find myself less interested in what Chiron in Taurus might bring and far more interested in what healing and wisdom Chiron in Aries may have brought us

Chiron first entered Aries in 2018 and re-entered permanently in February 2019. Seven years is a long time. Long enough for lives to change, for relationships to begin and end, for authentic identities to evolve and shift and entirely new versions of ourselves to be born.

For those with strong Aries placements, and particularly for those born with Chiron in Aries between approximately 1968 and 1976, this transit has often felt deeply personal. Many people in that latter group have also been experiencing their Chiron Return, a significant milestone that occurs around the age of fifty and often invites us into a deeper relationship with wounds we might still need to deal with, our healing, our sense of self and ultimately an emergence of our wisdom… hopefully

Before we talk about what Chiron in Aries may have meant, it is probably worth talking about what Chiron actually represents.

In astrology, Chiron points towards places where we may carry a wound, a sensitivity or an area of life that never feels quite as straightforward as we would like it to. Sometimes these wounds arise through childhood experiences. Sometimes they emerge through life circumstance or seem to be woven into the very fabric of who we are.

Yet one of the biggest misconceptions about Chiron is that it is only about pain and wounding but in my experience, Chiron has always been far more interesting than that. What interests me is the wisdom that emerges from our wounds.

Think about the people who have had the greatest capacity to help, guide, support or inspire you. More often than not, they are not the people who have lived perfect lives. They are the people who have lived through something. They have experienced loss, heartbreak, illness, disappointment, failure, uncertainty or adversity and have developed a depth of understanding because of those experiences. That is Chiron.

In mythology, Chiron was a healer, teacher and mentor. In astrology, Chiron often shows us where life initiates us into deeper self-understanding. The wound itself is important, but it is not the destination. The destination is wisdom. This is why I often think of Chiron less as the wounded healer and more as the wise teacher.

If Saturn teaches us through responsibility, Pluto through transformation and Uranus through disruption, then Chiron teaches us through experience.

And that brings us to Aries. What Has Chiron in Aries Been Teaching Us?

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It is associated with identity, courage, instinct, action and self-definition. It is the sign that says, "I am."

When Chiron moves through Aries, it tends to expose the places where our sense of self has been wounded. For some people this may have looked like struggles with confidence. For others it may have highlighted a lifelong tendency to seek approval from others rather than trusting themselves. Some people may have found themselves confronting fears around visibility, leadership or being seen. Others may have become increasingly aware of where they have silenced their needs in order to keep the peace, avoid conflict or maintain relationships.

For many, Chiron in Aries has exposed questions such as:

Do I trust myself?

Am I allowed to take up space?

Can I ask for what I need?

Do I have the courage to be who I really am?

Can I honour my instincts even when other people disagree?

These are not small questions and they are not questions that can be answered intellectually, they tend to be answered directly through experience.

The Wounds That May Have Surfaced

Over the past seven years, those with strong Aries placements may have found old wounds resurfacing around:

• Confidence and self-belief to be their true selves

• Being criticised or judged for standing out

• Anger and conflict

• Independence and autonomy

• Trusting their instincts

• Boundaries and self-advocacy

• Fear of rejection

• Fear of failure

• Fear of being "too much"

• Fear of being visible

These wounds may have emerged through relationships, work, family dynamics, self, this does depend on where Chiron sits in your chart but they often emerge through life circumstances that required them to become more honest about who they were and what they truly wanted.

Yet Chiron's purpose is not to expose a wound simply so we can suffer. It exposes a wound so real healing can begin.

The Healing That May Have Taken Place

Healing under Chiron in Aries rarely looks like suddenly becoming fearless. More often it looks like becoming more authentic, learning to trust yourself a little more than you did before, setting boundaries where previously you would have remained silent,  making decisions that honour your needs rather than constantly prioritising everyone else's,  learning that conflict is not always something to avoid and recognising that courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to move forward despite it.

As an astrologer I have witnessed a very strong theme of people becoming more comfortable occupying space in their own lives.

When Chiron Crosses Your Sun, Moon or Ascendant

If Chiron has crossed your Sun, Moon or Ascendant during this transit, you may have felt its effects particularly strongly.

A Chiron-Sun transit often challenges your sense of identity, purpose and confidence. A Chiron-Moon transit can bring old emotional wounds to the surface, inviting deeper emotional healing.

A Chiron-Ascendant transit often feels incredibly personal, affecting how you see yourself, how you show up in the world and sometimes even your relationship with your physical body.

For those experiencing a Chiron Return, the themes can feel even more significant. This is often a period where life asks us to acknowledge not only our wounds but also the wisdom we have gained from living with them.

Questions for Reflection

As Chiron prepares to leave Aries, I invite you to spend some time reflecting on the journey you have travelled since 2018.

• How has your sense of identity changed?

• Where have you become more authentic?

• What aspects of yourself have you reclaimed?

• What have you learned about trusting your instincts?

• Where have you found courage you didn't know you possessed?

• What boundaries have you established that previously felt impossible?

• How has your relationship with anger, conflict or self-advocacy evolved?

• What fears have you faced that once held you back?

• What version of yourself no longer fits who you are today?

• What wisdom have you gained because of what you have lived through?

Because ultimately, I don't think Chiron's greatest gift is healing. I think its greatest gift is wisdom.

As Chiron begins its slow transition into Taurus, the lessons might  shifting from identity to worth,  to embodiment, and discovering how to truly value who we have become.

Before we get there, however, perhaps it is worth pausing for a moment and acknowledging just how far we have come.

Because the wounds may have brought pain, but they have also shaped our wisdom.

And before Chiron turns its attention towards Taurus, perhaps there is one final question worth sitting with:

What part of yourself are you no longer willing to abandon?
