Sagittarius Full Moon: The meaning of meaning in your life?

Do you ever stop and really contemplate what meaning actually means in your life?
Not just what keeps you busy or functioning or distracted day to day, but what genuinely gives your life a sense of purpose, resonance, depth and spiritual aliveness.
As we move toward this Full Moon at 9 degrees of Sagittarius on May 31st here in Australia, I keep returning to this question. Probably because I am a Sagittarius myself and I know just how deeply this archetype longs for truth, meaning, understanding and expansion. Sagittarius is not interested in simply surviving life on the surface. It wants to understand life. It wants to experience life fully enough to extract wisdom from it. It wants to feel connected to something bigger than itself, whether that is philosophy, spirituality, creativity, learning, nature, travel, purpose or simply the feeling that life itself means something.
The Moon in Sagittarius is sitting in beautiful flowing aspects to Neptune, Saturn and Pluto, which adds extraordinary depth, emotional honesty and transformational potential to this lunation. There is something profoundly reflective about this Full Moon. It is not simply about optimism or inspiration, although Sagittarius certainly seeks both. It is about emotional and spiritual alignment and asking whether the life we are living, the beliefs we carry and the direction we are moving toward genuinely resonate with our deeper self.
The Gemini Sun is trining Pluto in Aquarius, creating a powerful backdrop for self-inquiry, deeper conversations and psychological insight. Gemini wants information and perspective. Pluto wants truth so there is an invitation to look beneath the surface narratives and into the deeper motivations, beliefs and patterns shaping our lives.
This Full Moon is a blue moon and follows the Scorpio Full Moon earlier in the month, and I do not think this is insignificant. Scorpio invited us into the underworld of ourselves, into emotional honesty, shadow work and confronting truths we may normally avoid. Sagittarius now asks us what meaning we are making from what we discovered there.
Meaning in our lives does not emerge from bypassing ourselves. Real meaning rarely comes from staying comfortable or attached to simplistic narratives. It often emerges through the willingness to meet ourselves honestly, including our contradictions, fears, wounds and polarities.
And I honestly think one of the deepest threads beneath sadness, disconnection and even depression can sometimes be the loss or absence of meaning, or perhaps also, living inside a meaning that never truly belonged to us in the first place.
So many of us inherit belief systems without questioning them. We inherit ideas about success, relationships, spirituality, purpose, identity and happiness from family, culture, media, religion or now increasingly, the algorithm. We are constantly being told what should matter, what should make us fulfilled and who we should become.
But Sagittarius reminds us that meaning cannot be prescribed, i has to be discovered through lived experience, to be explored, questioned, challenged and ultimately felt within the body and soul as something true and unique to us.
This is why Sagittarius is the philosopher, the seeker, the eternal student and explorer of consciousness. It asks us to expand beyond limitation, beyond certainty, beyond dogma and into a more open and curious relationship with life itself.
And perhaps one of the most important themes under this Full Moon is the integration of polarities, because true meaning is often found in the integration of opposites, the hopeful and grieving parts of ourselves, the strong and vulnerable parts and the part that longs for freedom and adventure and that longs for safety and belonging, the light and the shadow and the certainty and the questioning. All of this and its conscious integration helps us discover true meaning for ourselves
Sagittarius energy at its highest expression is not rigid belief or spiritual superiority. It is the willingness to continue growing, learning and evolving and understanding that wisdom often comes not through certainty, but through remaining open enough to let life transform us.
Jupiter in Cancer Square Chiron – The Emotional Undercurrent
Adding another layer to this Full Moon is the fact that Sagittarius’ ruler, Jupiter, is still in Cancer and squaring Chiron in Aries.
Jupiter in Cancer expands our emotional world, our need for safety, belonging, emotional nourishment and connection to home, family and emotional roots. Yet Chiron in Aries continues to expose wounds around identity, self-trust, autonomy and the courage to fully be ourselves.
There may be an emotional tension emerging between the part of us seeking comfort and emotional security and the part of us being asked to grow into greater self-definition and authenticity.
Old emotional wounds connected to belonging, rejection, visibility or feeling emotionally safe enough to express our truth may rise under this Full Moon. But this is not here to punish you. It is here to show u where healing and deeper self-awareness are needed.
Because healing is not about becoming perfect. It is about becoming more whole.
How To Work With This Full Moon Practically
This Full Moon is not only philosophical or spiritual. It also asks for active reflection and conscious engagement.
Here are some practical ways to work with this energy:
Reflect on Your Beliefs
Spend some time journalling about the beliefs currently shaping your life.
Ask yourself:
Which beliefs genuinely resonate with me now?
Which beliefs feel inherited, outdated or fear-based?
Where might my worldview be limiting my growth or openness?
What truths am I afraid to fully acknowledge?
Sagittarius asks us to remain intellectually and spiritually honest.
Seek New Perspectives
One of the healthiest expressions of Sagittarius energy is openness to learning.
Read something outside your normal perspective.Have a conversation with someone who sees life differently.Travel somewhere unfamiliar if you can.Watch where defensiveness arises when your beliefs are challenged.
This Full Moosn asks us to grow beyond the echo chambers we often unconsciously create.
Explore Meaning Through Experience
Meaning is not something you think your way into entirely. It is something you live into.
Notice what experiences genuinely make you feel more alive, connected and expanded and what drains your spirit or disconnects you from yourself. Your body and emotional responses often know before your mind does.
Spend Time In Honest Self-Reflection and tap into your deepest beliefs
Because Pluto is so active in this Full Moon, there is an invitation to go deeper psychologically and explore what it is you really believe about yourself, what gives you meaning and how you want to be in the world.
Do not fear your depth. There is wisdom there.
Reconnect To Hope
Sagittarius ultimately reminds us not to lose faith in life itself and to find what expands us and gives us grounded hope, not blind optimism. The understanding that growth, meaning and transformation are always possible, especially when we face difficult life seasons, is often what brings us closer to our spiritual practice that then brings meaning into out lives
A Final Reflection
This Sagittarius Full Moon is ultimately an invitation to reconnect with our own inner truth and a deeper sense of meaning that emerges from knowing ourselves deeply enough to live in alignment with what genuinely resonates within our souls.
So during this Full Moon, spend some time with the meaning of meaning in your own life.
What genuinely makes you feel spiritually alive? What beliefs are evolving? What truths are asking to be lived more honestly? And where is life asking you to grow beyond old limitations and into a more expansive understanding of yourself and the world around you?
Perhaps meaning is not something we find once and hold onto forever but it is something we continually uncover as we grow into deeper relationship with ourselves and with life itself.
